Hot metal ladle is one of the most important equipment in the process of iron and steel smelting, and its main function is to transport and store hot metal. Because of its harsh environment, often face high temperature, corrosion and other tests, so the performance requirements of refractory materials used in hot metal ladle is very strict.

Types of refractory materials

1. Refractory brick: Refractory brick is one of the earlier refractory materials used in hot metal ladles, with good fire resistance and mechanical strength. However, its thermal shock stability is poor and it is easily affected by thermal shock.

2. Refractory castable: Compared with refractory bricks, refractory castable has better thermal shock stability and can adapt to the complex and changeable stress environment inside the ladle. In addition, it also has the advantages of convenient construction and easy maintenance.

3. Refractory fiber module: This is a new type of refractory material, mainly composed of refractory fiber and base material. It has good thermal insulation and mechanical properties, and is widely used in the internal lining of hot metal ladles.

Performance characteristics of refractory materials

1. High refractoriness: refractory materials for hot metal ladles must have the ability to withstand high temperatures to ensure that they do not melt or deform in harsh working environments.

2. Good thermal shock stability: hot metal ladle will be frequently subjected to temperature changes during operation, so refractory materials must have excellent thermal shock stability and be able to withstand the impact of rapid temperature changes.

High mechanical strength: Refractory materials need to withstand the pressure of molten iron and other external forces, so they must have high mechanical strength to ensure the safe operation of the molten iron.

4. Good corrosion resistance: The molten iron contains corrosive substances, and the refractory material needs to have good corrosion resistance to resist chemical attack.

In practical application, the selection of refractory materials for molten iron should be determined according to the specific working environment and needs. For example, in the environment that needs to withstand higher temperature and pressure, you can choose to use refractory bricks or refractory castables; in the environment that requires good thermal shock stability, you can choose to use refractory fiber modules. In addition, in order to improve the service life and safety of the hot metal ladle, the refractory material should be maintained and overhauled regularly.
